ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Like all responsible citizens, we want to do our best to respect the environment. We are working hard to manage our energy consumption and reduce the volume of waste we produce

We’ve already exceeded our target of reducing our energy consumption by 25%

 

 

Employee responsibility + technological innovation = Mieux (better) 

 

In 2014, we set ourselves a challenge to reduce the energy consumption in our stores by 25%. Thanks to everyone’s involvement, we achieved this in less than two years and the actual reduction was 36%! Our goal is to go even further and achieve an additional 15% reduction by 2021.

Our energy savings were mostly made by cutting down on lighting use in our stores, which we did in 2015 while maintaining and even improving visual comfort for our staff and customers. The following year, we renovated our first stores and changed them over to 100% LED lighting (much more energy efficient than traditional bulbs). Our store in Privas, Ardèche cut its lighting use in half!

Our action plan also includes following :

  • best practice in all our stores;
  • performing a technical audit of our 50 least energy-efficient stores;
  • investing in virtuous and energy-efficient technologies (e.g. better performing air conditioning, LED illuminated outdoor signs) and, in particular, an automated remote management system for our heating and air conditioning systems;
  • fine-tuning consumption in our store network;
  • and programming lighting, heating and air conditioning systems to better adapt to the specific needs of each store in real time.

As a result of our energy policy, all our stores have been awarded ISO 50001 certification. This standard requires us to continuously improve and become even more efficient at saving energy.

 

 

 

Waste: wasting less and recycling more 

 

Since 2009, all of our stores have sorted all of their waste. Because they have their own baling press system, cardboard, plastic and recyclable materials can be flattened on the spot. Nearly three-quarters of our waste is completely recycled this way. In 2015, a full recycling policy was also implemented in our head office. Determined to reduce our waste even further, we got rid of the packaging material inside our shoe boxes. Finally, we didn’t need to wait for legislation to get rid of the plastic bags at our tills, as each of our customers already receives a shopper or re-usable “pocket bag”.Since 2009, all of our stores have sorted all of their waste.
